Clans of the Forest Characters & Book Cats

Clans of the forest characters include nine cats from the book series, and as of 28 September 2026 exactly four of those nine have been named by official sources: Brightheart, Tawnypelt, Tallstar and Ivypool. The remaining five have not been named by any publisher source. Separately from the book cats, you play a Warrior Cat of your own, created and named by you.

How many book cats appear in the game?

Nine, according to the store's own feature list - you will interact with nine cats from the book series. That is the complete published count, and it is the number every character page for this game should be built around.

What has not been published is any of the supporting detail: not which Clan each belongs to, not which campaign they appear in, not their role in the story. Nine is a firm figure; almost everything behind it is still open. The four Clans page covers the structure those characters move through, and the game overview covers the franchise context the game comes from.

Which four cats have been announced?

These four are the cats in the official teaser art for the game, which is the reason they are known at all. Everything else in the cast is still unrevealed, and the game's story content is procedurally generated - the store page says no two playthroughs are the same - so the character list may not even be fixed at nine until somebody plays it.

What does the box art tell us about the cast?

One concrete piece of staging: the cover art shows the player character in the foreground with Tawnypelt and Brightheart mid-battle in the background. That is the only published information about how the player character and the book cats relate on screen, and it is a small one - two named cats in combat, with you in front of them.

It is worth resisting the pull to read more into it. A cover composition is marketing, not a story outline, and two cats on a box does not tell you whether they are allies, rivals or something else. The honest total available today is four named book cats out of nine, plus a player character of your own making.

Who do you play as?

Your own Warrior Cat. You create it and you name it before anything else happens in the game, and its appearance is yours to build in the cat creator - fur, patterns, markings, eyes, tails, whiskers and ears, with millions of combinations available.

What you do not get to choose is your role. There are no classes: the player is locked to the warrior path, Medicine Cats appear in the story but you cannot play one, and the developers explained that the emotional climax across all four Sagas relies on you standing at the head of your Clan. What you do choose is your Clan, and that decides which campaign you are in.

When will the rest of the cast be revealed?

Nobody has said, and the honest answer is that the announcement material so far has revealed four of nine. There is no published roadmap for character reveals, no drip-feed schedule and no statement about when the remaining five will be named. The most likely places for it to happen first are the official franchise site and the Steam community forums, both of which we track - the second one in our news and updates timeline.
